When we started to discuss where we wanted to go for our honeymoon we knew that we didn’t want to visit the normal tourist destinations. We were looking for something that promised a more adventure. We wanted to be pushed out of our comfort zone. This was our first time leaving the relative safety North America. The Galapagos Islands were what first brought our attention to Ecuador. The islands paired with the Amazon Rainforest and the metropolis of Quito seemed to be a great blend of different atmospheres for a price that we could afford.

In late September, armed with an infantile understanding of Spanish, we set off on our greatest journey to date. We flew from Detroit to Miami and began to reach our destination shortly after sunset. As we descended through the clouds we caught our first glimpse of the sprawling city. A wave of nervousness washed over me as I thought that we may have gotten in over our heads here. But, it was too late to turn back now.
